Beith welcomes extra funding available for local football groups11.30.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 12th Jul 2007 Berwick MP Alan Beith has welcomed news that the Football Foundation is offering unprecedented levels of funding to local football groups. The Football Foundation is the biggest sports charity in the UK. It is transforming the landscape of grass roots sport across the country. Since its launch in July 2000, the Football Foundation has supported more than 3,700 projects worth £537 million. Groups are still able to apply for funding. Alan Beith says "This is an excellent opportunity for local schools, sports clubs, youth clubs, football teams and local authorities in our area to obtain funds and strengthen football. I urge these groups to take advantage of the unprecedented funding on offer." With the Premier League, the Football Association, Sport England and the Government paying in to the Foundation every year, there is an annual budget of £45 million available. This can go towards building new changing rooms or all-weather pitches, starting community schemes, or even providing a brand new football strip and equipment for junior teams.
